The University of Naples Federico II hosts the online Conference "Science and culture of peace. In memory of Pietro Greco" which will be held on April 13, 2021 from 3 to 7 pm.
With what objectives and tools can science play the role of an effective bridge to peace in a world marked by a strong acceleration of scientific and technological development? How can we strengthen the action of the sectors of the scientific community that have espoused the culture of peace since the end of the Second World War? The questions posed at the center of the conference were a constant starting point for reflection and work for Pietro Greco, writer and scientific journalist who died last December 18, to whom this initiative is dedicated.
The Rector of the University of Naples Federico II, Matteo Lorito, will open the works of the conference. Nuclear disarmament, international treaties on the control or banning of arms, peace education, international cooperation and dialogue based on a shared scientific rationality will be discussed together with Daniele Amoroso of the University of Cagliari, Paolo Cotta-Ramusino, secretary general of the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs, Francesco Lenci, of the CNR Institute of Biophysics, Alessandro Pascolini of the University of Padua, Enza Pellecchia of the University of Pisa, Ilenia Picardi and Maura Striano of the University of Naples Federico II. Guglielmo Tamburrini, of the University of Naples Federico II, coordinates the debate.
